An eighth-floor unit of a high-rise building in Centretown will be uninhabitable following a fire on Friday night, Ottawa Fire Services said.
Alarms from a monitoring company and telephone calls to 911 reported heavy smoke in the building on MacLaren Street, between Bank and Kent Streets, just before 9 p.m., a media release said. Another caller reported one building occupant required aid for smoke inhalation.
The interior fire was extinguished by 9:16 p.m., and there was no damage to adjoining units, Ottawa Fire Services added, though one individual was receiving treatment from paramedics.
An Ottawa Fire Service investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
