Firefighters battle three-alarm blaze in Gatineau

A three-alarm fire at Resolute Forest Products in Gatineau on Monday caused an estimated $400,000 damage.

Gatineau firefighters were called to the scene just before 3 p.m. after a machine caught on fire, and upon arrival crews discovered flames and smoke coming from the ninth floor of the building at 79 Main Street. The blaze spread to the roof of the 10-storey building, forcing the third alarm to be called. The fire was deemed under control at 5:12.

Fifteen workers were evacuated from the building.

A total of 54 firefighters and 15 trucks were at the scene to help battle the blaze.
