Peek behind firehouse doors in Orléans, Vars with new virtual tours

Ottawa Fire Services says it has good news for parents: New virtual tours for no-doubt cabin-feverish kids.

And grown-ups may want to tune in, too, for behind-the-scenes videos of fire stations stations in Orléans and Vars on YouTube.

“A big part of our relationship with the community is our station tours,” said a release from public information officer Nicholas DeFazio Wednesday.

But amid the COVID-19 pandemic, “we have been unable to have anyone from the community inside our fire stations for almost two years.

“Whether it was a birthday party, a school class or just a young kid who loves fire trucks stopping by with their parents, we truly enjoyed touring them around our fire stations.”

Fire Station 53 in Orléan s is a composite station with both full-time and volunteer firefighters while Fire Station 73 in Vars is staffed by volunteer firefighters.

The videos show off trucks and equipment with some fire safety messages to boot, the fire department said, adding “we are looking forward to having everyone back for in person station tours when it is safe to do so.”
