NBA Preserved $1.5 Billion In Revenue With Bubble

The NBA spent $180 million to operate for approximately 100 days in its campus environment in Orlando, but the investment allowed the league stop the loss of a projected $1.5 billion in revenue.

The bulk of the money was tied to national and local television revenue, followed by league sponsorships.

“Without a doubt, it was worth it,” said one executive from a Disney bubble team of the massive effort and investment needed to complete the longest season in NBA history.

The league won’t know the specific amount of its overall revenue shortfall until it completes audits for all 30 teams over the next few weeks.

Approximately 40 percent of the league’s revenue comes from its gate.

According to the Los Angeles Times, however, the league still lost approximately $1.5 billion in revenue due to the pandemic despite recouping approximately the same number by completing the season.
