New York’s LaGuardia airport has reopened a runway that had been closed because of a sinkhole on Wednesday, snarling flights for the busy Memorial Day travel period, the airport said.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which manages New York City area airports, had said runway inspections using ground-penetrating radar on Thursday identified potential areas of concern that were repaired, and engineering crews were conducting additional inspections on Friday.
Repairs have been completed, while the cause of the sinkhole is being investigated, according to a LaGuardia airport social media account.
