Κρίθηκε ένοχος και για τις 18 κατηγορίες που του έχουν αποδοθεί

Ένοχος κρίθηκε ο γερουσιαστής των Δημοκρατικών Μπομπ Μενέντεζ σε δίκη για υπόθεση διαφθοράς.

Ο γερουσιαστής του Νιου Τζέρσεϊ, ο οποίος είχε απαλλαγεί από προηγούμενο κατηγορητήριο για διαφθορά το 2017, καταδικάστηκε για δωροδοκία στην οποία εμπλέκονται επιχειρηματίες και ξένες κυβερνήσεις.

Όπως γράφουν ειδικότερα τα αμερικανικά ΜΜΕ, ο Μενέντεζ κρίθηκε ένοχος και για τις 18 κατηγορίες που του αποδίδονται.

Με την ανακοίνωση της δικαστικής απόφασης, ο γερουσιαστής Μενέντεζ έσκυψε προς τα εμπρός, με τους αγκώνες στο τραπέζι και το πηγούνι ακουμπισμένο στα χέρια.

Η ετυμηγορία αυτή είναι πιθανό να εντείνει τις πιέσεις προς τον Μενέντεζ ώστε να παραιτηθεί πριν από τη λήξη της θητείας του. Ωστόσο, δεν προβλέπεται από το Σύνταγμα και τους κανόνες της Γερουσίας να παραιτηθεί από την έδρα του μετά την καταδίκη. Αν αρνηθεί ο Μενέντεζ, η μόνη επιλογή των γερουσιαστών είναι να διεξαγάγουν μια σπάνια ψηφοφορία αποπομπής.
