Californians Can Now Store Driver’s Licenses, State IDs in Apple Wallet

Californians can now add their driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet on both their iPhones and Apple Watches, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Sept. 19.
It’s part of the state’s mobile driver’s license pilot program, which is currently limited to 1.5 million participants. Last month, the governor announced the same update for Google Wallet.
“With this new integration, we’re working to better serve the people of California in the 21st Century,” Newsom said in a statement.
Apple also released a rendering of the feature, available to view online.
Although this update does not replace the requirement for individuals to carry a physical card while driving, the digital ID can be used at TSA checkpoints at airports such as San Francisco International, Los Angeles International, and San Jose Mineta International. It can also be used at certain businesses and venues to show proof of age or identity….
