Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant to Reopen to Supply Energy for Microsoft Data Centers

Microsoft has entered a 20-year power purchase agreement to reopen Pennsylvania’s closed Three Mile Island (TMI) nuclear power plant.
Constellation Energy, the owner of the plant, announced the agreement on Friday, stating that it will restore the TMI Unit 1, adding approximately 835 megawatts to the electrical grid while creating 3,400 direct and indirect jobs and generating more than $3 billion in state and federal taxes.
To keep its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2030, Microsoft will rely on nuclear power to support its data centers.
The commitment aligns with the Biden administration’s initiative to commission nuclear power as a source of clean energy to achieve carbon-free electricity by 2035….
