Οι τρεις επιστήμονες τιμήθηκαν με το Νόμπελ Χημείας, για την έρευνά τους πάνω στη δομή της πρωτεΐνης

Με το Νόμπελ Χημείας τιμήθηκαν φέτος οι επιστήμονες Ντέιβιντ Μπέικερ, Ντέμης Χασάμπης και Τζον Μ. Τζάμπερ.

Σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση της Βασιλικής Σουηδικής Ακαδημίας Επιστημών, οι τρεις επιστήμονες τιμήθηκαν με το Νόμπελ Χημείας, για την έρευνά τους πάνω στη δομή της πρωτεΐνης.

Ο Ντέιβιντ Μπέικερ θα πάρει το μισό βραβείο για την έρευνά του πάνω στο «υπολογιστικό σχεδιασμό πρωτεϊνών» και το άλλο μισό θα μοιραστεί ο Κύπριος, Ντέμης Χασάμπης και ο Τζον Μ. Τζάμπερ για την πρόβλεψη της δομής της πρωτεϊνής.

Ο Χασάμπης ζει και εργάζεται στην Βρετανία. Ο πατέρας του είναι κυπριακής καταγωγής και η μητέρα του κινεζικής.

Το βραβείο συνοδεύεται από χρηματικό έπαθλο ύψους 11 εκατομμυρίων σουηδικών κορώνων (1,1 εκατ. δολάρια), το οποίο θα μοιραστούν οι δύο νικητές.
