Honda Canada Recalls Hundreds of Thousands of Vehicles Due to Crash Risk

Honda Canada has announced a recall affecting more than 200,000 vehicles across the country due to a steering issue that could increase collision risk for drivers.
The automaker has voluntarily recalled roughly 239,000 newer-model Honda and Acura vehicles due to a defective part in the steering gear box. The defect could result in increased risk of a crash or injury, Honda said in an Oct. 9 press release.
“An improperly produced gearbox worm wheel can swell when exposed to environmental heat and moisture, reducing the grease film thickness between the worm wheel and worm gear,” Honda Canada said.
“In addition, the worm gear spring reload was set improperly high, increasing the sliding force between components. Excessive friction between these components can cause increased steering effort and difficulty, or ‘sticky’ steering.”…
