Η αιτία του συμβάντος δεν είναι σαφής, είπε αξιωματούχος τονίζοντας ότι δεν σημειώθηκαν καθυστερήσεις στην εναέρια κυκλοφορία πάνω από το Φιουμιτσίνο

O δεξιός κινητήρας αεροσκάφους τύπου Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner της κινεζικής αεροπορικής εταιρείας Hainan Airlines τυλίχτηκε στις φλόγες λίγο μετά την απογείωσή του από το αεροδρόμιο της Ρώμης Φιουμιτσίνο σήμερα το πρωί, όπως ανακοίνωσε αξιωματούχος του ιταλικού αεροδρομίου.

Το αεροσκάφος, το οποίο είχε προορισμό την κινεζική πόλη Σενζέν, επέστρεψε στο Φιουμιτσίνο και προσγειώθηκε με ασφάλεια αφού άδειασε τα καύσιμά του στη θάλασσα.
