Misterbianco Celebrates Talent and Culture with the XXV Edition of the Nuccio Costa Award

Misterbianco (CT), December 8, 2024 – The XXV edition of the Nuccio Costa Award, held on December 3, 4, and 5, 2024, at the Nelson Mandela Theater in Misterbianco, stood out as an event of extraordinary cultural, artistic, and social significance. A tribute to the renowned Catania-born host and presenter Nuccio Costa, the event offered the Sicilian community, institutions, and Italy a 360-degree artistic experience, celebrating young talents and prominent figures in the international cinematic and musical scene.

Award Winners and Distinguished Guests

Among the most significant moments was the awarding of Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Paul Haggis, who received the prestigious Nuccio Costa Award for his exceptional contribution to world cinema. Haggis also conducted an extraordinary masterclass, organized by Dr. Ntrita Rossi, cinema and film festival expert and researcher, inspiring and training over 60 participants, including students, producers, writers, and Sicilian actors.

Another recognition was given to the talented emerging actor Biagio Venditti, whose skill and passion promise a bright future for Italian cinema.

The artistic director of the Award, Carmen Longo, and the patron Francisco Cordovana enthusiastically welcomed the participation of Dr. Roberta Mazzullo, national head casting art director and local coach talent scout of Star Production Academy, who enriched the program by introducing young dancers and singers of extraordinary talent.

International Collaborations and Thematic Panels

Masterclass with the renowned Oscar-winning Paul Haggis. Moderated by Ntritta Rossi.

The event opened with a film workshop organized in collaboration with the AmiCorti International Film Festival, which involved over 100 students from the Majorana High School in Misterbianco. The students created four short films, written and inspired by their own ideas. The project was guided by Dr. Ntrita Rossi, president and artistic director of AmiCorti IFF, and Eden Avital Alexander, actress and international instructor.

Of great importance was the Environmental Panel “Verde Sicilia,” held on December 4, which addressed ethical and bioethical issues. The contribution of Professor Vicky Bafataki from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, who received the Nuccio Costa Award, was central to the discussion, which also featured the participation of the Misterbianco Cultural Councillor, lawyer Dario Moscato, and the Councillor from the Municipality of Valverde, Dr. Loredana Di Biasi, supported by Electric Power of Valverde.

Social Themes and Inclusion

The Social Panel on December 3, dedicated to disability, social inclusion, and combating gender violence, offered moments of deep reflection. Through the contributions of psychologist Ina Leonardi and the Councillor for Social Policies, Dr. Marina Virgilito, the audience was sensitized to fundamental issues essential for societal progress.
