Annual Gathering And Vasilopita Cutting 2025

The Annual Gathering and the traditional Vasilopita Cutting of the Association of Worldwide Maniots “I Mani” took place on Sunday, February 16, at the exhibition hall of the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus. The event was a triumphant occurrence.

In a festive atmosphere, the members of the Board of Directors, the Committees of the Regional Departments and the Cultural Departments warmly welcomed the attendees, who responded to the invitation and filled the event venue. Throughout the evening, both young and old enjoyed themselves, dancing with enthusiasm and elevating the mood and entertainment to the highest level. The event showed a massive and dynamic presence of Maniots, along with friends of Mani by participating in this year’s celebration!

At the beginning of the evening, the host, Georgia Paraschou, Founder of Humanity Greece, welcomed the attendees, gave an introductory speech about the Association and invited the President Dimitra Kouvari to the stage. The President expressed her gratitude to the attendees, giving special recognition to those who contributed as sponsors and media sponsors.

Next, the respected clergy, Father Daniel, Head of the Holy Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Piraeus, and Archdeacon Father Silouanos, representing His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus, blessed the vasilopita. They wished for the Association to continue promoting and passing down Mani’s history and culture worldwide, especially to future generations. Following this, President Dimitra Kouvari cut the traditional vasilopita and short speeches were given by distinguished guests.

The event continued with performances by the Association’s choir, followed by a theatrical performance inspired by the history and culture of Mani. In an emotionally filled atmosphere, honorary awards were given to distinguished guests. One of the long-awaited recognitions was dedicated to a historic music album featuring two great artists! The renowned and celebrated Greek singer Alkistis Protopsalti was honored for her performance in the album “Maniatika” and her overall contribution to culture and music. She was also named an honorary member of the Association. As an award, she received a unique replica of a Maniot tower, an exquisite creation by the distinguished sculptor Petros Georgariou. Also, the late Nikola Mitsovoleas was posthumously honored for his contributions to Mani and for his participation and performance in the “Maniatika” album. His sister, Vicky Mitsovolea, attended the event and spoke a few words about her brother, a remarkable Maniot singer who, unfortunately, left early in life.

Following this, the Association’s dance group energized the audience by performing in traditional Maniot costumes, honoring the region’s culture and traditions.

The event was graced by the presence of central and local government representatives, including Vice Mayors, Municipal and Community Councilors. Also, athletes, actors, singers, journalists, TV presenters, celebrities and socialites were present, enjoying the festive atmosphere.

The Association also made sure to engage and entertain young attendees, who sang, danced and played with the help of an animator.

Members of the Board of Directors, regional departments, theatrical group and volunteer instructors gave their best efforts to make the evening a success. The Association extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated and to those who honored the annual gathering and vasilopita cutting with their presence! Words cannot express the emotions the Association felt seeing so many of its fellow Maniots and friends who love Mani and support the Association’s work!
