Bacterial ‘Hazard’ Prompts Recall of Amika Shampoo in Canada

A shampoo sold both online and in department and beauty stores has been recalled in Canada due to the risk of microbial contamination.
Amika Mirrorball High Shine + Protect Antioxidant Shampoo could be contaminated with Pluralibacter gergoviae, a bacterium commonly found in water, soil, and various cosmetic and personal care items, Health Canada said in a Feb. 7 advisory.
The New York-based hair care brand received 48 reports of “foul odour” and two reports of irritation or allergic reaction in Canada as of Jan. 27, the advisory said.
The Amika products affected by the recall are: Mirrorball Shampoo + Conditioner 20 ml Duo, Mirrorball Shampoo 1L, Mirrorball Shampoo 275 ml, Mirrorball Shampoo 500 ml, and Mirrorball Shampoo 60 ml….
