A top European Union official warned that the 27-nation bloc would implement retaliatory tariffs against the United States following President Donald Trump’s decision to impose 25 percent duties on aluminum and steel imports.
Trump signed proclamations on Monday that increased the tariff rate on aluminum to 25 percent from his previous 10 percent rate and aimed to “close existing loopholes and exemptions to restore a true 25% tariff” targeting steel products being sent to the United States.
In response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement on Tuesday that the EU would take “firm and proportionate countermeasures” against the United States and claimed tariffs will be “bad for business” while being “worse for consumers.”…
