NYC Students Underperform Nationally, Outperform Other Big US Cities

NEW YORK CITY—Students in the Big Apple aren’t doing well in school, regularly failing to meet the national and state averages. However, the city isn’t doing so badly compared to other large cities.
The National Assessment of Educational Progress released its 2024 Nation’s Report Card for fourth and eighth grade reading and mathematics. The test covers all states and major cities and determines how proficient that area’s students are in a given subject.
