Trudeau Pledges $5 Billion in Aid to Ukraine, Funded by Frozen Russian Assets

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has pledged an additional $5 billion in aid to Ukraine, to be funded by revenues from frozen Russian assets.
Trudeau made the announcement on Feb. 24 at a summit of world leaders in Kyiv to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Canada has frozen just over $140 million in Russian assets since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, according to the RCMP’s latest available figures updated in December 2024.
To date, the Trudeau government has committed $4.5 billion in military assistance to Ukraine. This includes Leopard 2 main battle tanks, armoured combat support vehicles, anti-tank weapons, small arms, and ammunition….
