House Speaker Johnson Says Hegseth, Waltz Shouldn’t Face Discipline Over Signal Chat

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said on Monday evening that White House national security adviser Mike Waltz and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should not face discipline over a chat they had over the encrypted messaging app Signal that allegedly included plans to strike a Yemeni terrorist group.
Johnson was questioned by reporters on camera about a report by Jeffrey Goldberg, The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, that he had somehow been added to the chat group, in which Waltz and Hegseth shared plans for an attack on the Houthis.
