New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen Won’t Run for Reelection in 2026

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) said in an interview published Wednesday that she will not run for reelection in 2026, harming Democrats’ chances to regain a majority in the upper chamber.
In an interview with the New York Times, the 78-year-old Shaheen confirmed that she will not seek a fourth term. She also said that Democrats need a new generation of political leaders.
“It was a difficult decision, made more difficult by the current environment in the country—by President Trump and what he’s doing right now,” she told the outlet.
“It’s important for New Hampshire and the country to have a new generation of leadership,” Shaheen, the state’s former governor, later said in the interview….
