A significant earthquake, preliminarily measuring magnitude 5.2, struck near the small town of Julian in San Diego County, California, just after 10 a.m. on April 14, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
No tsunami warning was issued by the National Weather Service after the event.
The temblor lasted a few seconds, according to local eyewitnesses, and was felt as far away as West Los Angeles.
The small artsy mountain town of Julian was rocked with several aftershocks within minutes of the larger event, measuring from 2.5 to 3.0 in magnitude following the 10:08 a.m. quake, USGS reported.
Residents as far as Los Angeles County, about 140 miles north of Julian, were notified a few seconds before the quake struck by the state’s earthquake alert system….
