Trump Meets With El Salvador’s President; Global Tech Shares Gain on US Tariff Exemptions

U.S. President Donald Trump is meeting with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele on Monday. “I think he’s doing a fantastic job, and he’s taking care of a lot of problems that we have that we really wouldn’t be able to take care of from a cost standpoint,” Trump told reporters on Sunday about Bukele, referring to the cost of imprisoning illegal immigrant gang members in El Salvador. The Trump administration has deported hundreds of Venezuelans to El Salvador under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act.
Global technology stocks rose on Monday after the United States exempted electronics such as smartphones and computer hardware from its steep reciprocal tariffs on China, offering relief to a sector battered by supply-chain uncertainty. Apple shares were up 5.5 percent in U.S. premarket trading. Other consumer product companies, including computer hardware makers HP and Dell Technologies, surged 6 percent and 6.8 percent, respectively, while chip giant Nvidia was up 1.8 percent as part of a broad-based recovery in semiconductor stocks….
