Tennessee Creates Domestic Abuse Registry Named After Murdered Deputy

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed Savanna’s Law this week, creating a first-of-its-kind domestic violence registry in the state for individuals convicted multiple times of offenses against domestic abuse victims.
The law is named in honor of Robertson County Deputy Savanna Puckett, who was murdered in 2022 at age 22 by a man with a history of domestic violence.
Puckett was found shot nine times inside her burning home. Her dog was also killed by the man. He pleaded guilty to murder and arson in 2023 and was sentenced to life in prison.
“Savanna had met her murderer online, as most do nowadays,” said Kimberly Dodson, Puckett’s mother, during a legislative hearing in March in Nashville. “After a few dates, she noticed him being clingy, so she started to do some Google research about him and was not able to find anything except one charge that was not related to domestic violence….
