Liberals Face First Confidence Vote Over Throne Speech

The Liberal government will face its first confidence test on June 4 as MPs vote on the speech from the throne.
The speech was delivered by King Charles III on May 27 to open Parliament and outlined the new minority government’s agenda focused on growing the economy.
A majority vote against the speech would signal non-confidence in the government and would normally lead to the triggering of an election. Such an outcome is unlikely with the Liberals holding a strong minority. The Liberal Party has 169 seats, and the opposition parties have 174 seats in total.
