President Donald Trump said Democrats have gone too far left, as evidenced by their choice of a New York City mayoral candidate who espouses far-left policies.
In a pair of posts on his Truth Social platform, the president reacted to the upset victory of Zohran Mamdani, currently a New York state assemblyman who describes himself as a “Democratic socialist” on his account on social media platform X.
“It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line,” Trump wrote on June 25, calling Mamdani a “communist.”
The president is a native New Yorker who relocated to Florida several years ago.
Mamdani, 33, defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other candidates in the June 24 New York mayoral Democratic primary election. As a result, Mamdani will advance to the Nov. 4 general election, where his main contender is expected to be the current mayor, Eric Adams, who is running as an independent. The Republican candidate is Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels group. He lost to Adams in the 2021 election….
