At least 27 people, including nine children, have died in catastrophic flash flooding that struck central Texas on July 4, leaving a trail of devastation across the region, according to officials.
Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha announced the updated death toll during a press conference in Kerrville on the morning of July 5, raising the number of confirmed fatalities from 24, reported a day earlier. He emphasized that the figures were current as of 8:55 a.m. local time but “changing rapidly,” with further updates expected later in the day.
