Calgary Police Officer Faces 2 Counts of 2nd Degree Murder Following Slow Speed Chase Shooting

A Calgary police officer has been charged in the deaths of two individuals following a shooting incident in 2023.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was called in to investigate after Cst. Craig Stothard fired on a van following a slow speed chase, according to an ASIRT statement.
Stothard, who had been with the Calgary police for 13 years at the time of the incident, was charged on July 14 with two counts of second-degree murder, ASIRT said. He appeared in court the next day and was released on conditions.
Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan said the charges were “extremely serious.”
