The federal government says it will be ending its long-running funding of hotel rooms for asylum seekers this fall.
Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been housing asylum seekers in hotel rooms around Ontario and Quebec since 2017, a program that has cost around $1.1 billion.
A department spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an email that it will continue to support those still living in the hotels until Sept. 30.
The department says that it “remains committed” to supporting asylum seekers as they transition. Spokesperson Isabelle Dubois said that the IRCC works “with service providers to assist with housing, employment, and essential services.”…
