Voters Set to Head to Polls in Poilievre’s Alberta Byelection

Voters are set to head to the polls on Aug. 18 in the byelection for Battle River-Crowfoot in Alberta, where Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is vying for another chance to enter Parliament.
While there are 213 other candidates running for the seat in the House of Commons, Poilievre is expected to win the byelection, according to two political science professors. The Tories have held onto the riding for the last century.
Julie Simmons, a political science professor at the University of Guelph in Ontario, said that in every election from 2004 to 2025, the vote share in the riding held by the Conservatives has been more than 80 percent. …
