West Nile Virus Detected in Mosquitoes in Greenwood Lake Area

ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y.—West Nile Virus (WNV) has been detected in the local mosquito population, according to the Orange County Health Department. The mosquitoes carrying the potentially lethal disease were found in the Greenwood Lake area.
The county government told the public that they had detected the virus in a mosquito pool near Greenwood Lake on Aug. 6. It was discovered as part of a regular mosquito survey. As of now, there have been no reported human or mammal cases in the region.
WNV isn’t generally a deadly ailment, although it can be in extreme cases. The disease is spread to mammals through mosquito bites. The mosquitoes become infected when they bite infected birds. Symptoms normally occur 3 to 14 days after being bitten, and normally last a few days….
