84% of Canadians Say Oil, Gas Important to Canada’s Economy: Poll

More than four in five Canadians consider oil and gas an essential component of Canada’s economy but support for this perspective has seen a slight decline since the beginning of this year, a new poll suggests.
Eighty-four percent of the 1,034 Canadians surveyed by Nanos from July 31 to Aug. 6 described oil and gas as “important” to the country’s current economy, compared to 88 percent in a February poll.
Sixty-seven percent of Canadians polled this summer also view oil and gas as important to Canada’s future economy, compared to 70 percent in February.
Support for the increase of oil and gas exports for global security was high among those polled, however. More than 70 percent of Canadians either agreed or somewhat agreed on the expansion of oil and gas exports for security reasons, marking the highest level of agreement since Nanos started tracking the issue in 2022….
