Federal prosecutors on Thursday announced they had won an indictment of former FBI Director James Comey in federal courts.
Comey was indicted by a grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on charges of making a false statement and obstruction in a criminal case, the U.S. attorney’s office in the area announced on Thursday.
In a statement, Lindsey Halligan, U.S. attorney for the district, said the charges “represent a breach of the public trust at an extraordinary level.”
“The balance of power … relies upon accountability and a forthright presentation of facts from executive leadership to congressional oversight. Any intent to avoid, evade, prevent, or obstruct compliance is a violation of professional responsibility and, most importantly, the law,” Halligan said….
