The mayor of a small Ontario city has called the sexual assault of a young child in the community a “horrific act” that was “impossible to fathom.”
Welland Mayor Frank Campion made the comments in connection to an Aug. 30-31 incident in a home near Crowland Avenue and York Street.
Niagara police said a man broke into the home and attacked the 5-year-old child.
Campion said that the incident “shakes every parent to their core.”
“I cannot begin to imagine the pain this family is living through. The love and compassion we have for our children, and our concern for their well-being, is beyond words,” he wrote in a Sept. 3 statement. …
