Nova Scotia’s education minister has issued a new directive to schools that they are to play the national anthem at the start of each school day.
The directive, which was released this month, comes into effect immediately, according to the government’s policy.
The policy says that both the Regional Centres for Education (RCEs) and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) are to inform the schools in their districts that principals are expected to play the Canadian national anthem “at the beginning of each school day.”
“The playing of the national anthem is intended to remind students of their citizenship and foster a sense of pride and being part of a larger community,” the policy reads….
