Woman Who Said She Cast 2 Ballots in Dog’s Name Faces Criminal Charges

A Californian woman who allegedly obtained extra voting ballots by registering her dog has been charged with five crimes and is facing time in prison.
Laura Lee Yourex, 62, of Costa Mesa, voted illegally in two elections using mail-in ballots obtained by registering her dog, named Maya Jean Yourex, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said on Sept. 5.
California does not require voter identification or proof of residence to register to vote or to vote on Election Day in state elections. However, proof of residence is required for first-time voters in federal elections, and residents sign affidavits of their name, address, date of birth, political party preference, and U.S. citizenship under penalty of perjury when they register….
