A complaint filed with the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal alleges that a member of a Vancouver Island school district’s homestay program who previously hosted international students was blacklisted because of her political views.
Byrony Dixon of Ladysmith, B.C., says a Freedom of Information (FOI) request revealed that she was barred from continuing to participate as a homestay parent in School District 68’s International Student Education Program this past school year due to her views opposing the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) curriculum in schools, which involves the teaching of different sexual orientations and gender identities.
The district’s homestay program is an arrangement that allows international students to stay with a local family and receive accommodation, meals, and a safe environment while they attend school. Dixon previously received a $1,075 monthly stipend for acting as a homestay parent….
