A labor union representing U.S. government employees has called on Democrats in Congress to support a GOP-backed funding bill that would end the government shutdown.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), a union representing 820,000 employees, published a demand from its president, Everett Kelly, on its website on Oct. 27.
Kelly called on leaders of Congress to “reopen the government immediately under a clean continuing resolution that allows continued debate on larger issues.”
“Both political parties have made their point, and still there is no clear end in sight,” Kelly wrote of the shutdown, which appears premised on a disagreement between Democrats and Republicans on reauthorizing Obamacare health insurance subsidies….
