With surging coffee prices at the grocery store and in cafes, how are Canadians adjusting their coffee drinking habits?
Grocery store coffee prices have risen nearly 28 percent year over year since last August, with average prices for a cup of joe also climbing at cafes and restaurants.
When it comes to cafes, the purchase of hot coffee only experienced a 1.4 percent decline from January to Sept. 22, remaining a popular choice despite rising prices, at a time when 75 percent of Canadians say they’re eating out less often.
Still, coffee fans have noticed the jump in prices, and not just this year. “It’s way higher,” said Christina Quenville, who was waiting in line for a coffee at a Starbucks in Duncan, B.C. She said coffee prices are also much higher at the grocery store, adding, “everything’s gone crazy since COVID.”…
