The 80 school districts in Los Angeles County had something unique happen during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021. Lowell Joint School District, which borders Orange County, moved out from under the authority of the Los Angeles County Department of Education to that of the OC the previous year. Consequently, Orange County went from 27 school districts to 28.
A migrating school district is historic, but it wasn’t the biggest news. This was the year of the pandemic lockdowns. And two dozen school districts saw double-digit movement within this 4,751 square miles, making Los Angeles County nearly as large as Connecticut and larger than Delaware and Rhode Island….
