RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme says the force acts independent of politicians, rejecting accusations by the Conservatives that the Mounties acted under political pressure by the Liberal government when it came to the issue of the SNC-Lavalin scandal.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney in Toronto on Oct. 16, Duheme also responded to Poilievre’s characterization of RCMP leadership as “despicable” by inviting him to meet the leaders who run the 32,000 member law enforcement agency.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said in a recent media interview that many of the scandals during the Trudeau administration “should have involved jail time.” Speaking with the Northern Perspective YouTube channel, the Conservative leader added that actions of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the SNC-Lavalin affair were “probably” a criminal offence, and also referred to Trudeau breaching Canada’s criminal code by taking “a free vacation from someone with whom he had government business,” in the 2016 Aga Khan scandal….
