Senate Tees Up Another Vote to End Shutdown

WASHINGTON—Fourteen days after the federal government shut down when its funding lapsed, lawmakers will have another chance to reopen it.
The Senate will vote again on a short-term funding patch, H.R. 5371, on the evening of Oct. 14. That vote will mark the eighth time the body has considered the continuing resolution, which is backed by virtually all Republicans and a small number of Democrats.
Most Democrats have supported an alternative measure that would permanently extend enhanced subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, and add to other areas of health care spending. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget has said the package would add $1.5 trillion in debt over the following 10 years….
