The hottest issue in this year’s Calgary municipal election is blanket rezoning. A public opinion poll conducted by Ward 12 Coun. Evan Spencer (in April 2024, before the rezoning was passed) found 71 per cent opposed the change. The public hearing on the rezoning in late April and May 2024 resulted in a record 736 Calgarians sharing their thoughts on the issue over 12 days — 62 per cent against, 31 per cent for and seven per cent neutral.
