The federal government remains shut down after Senate votes on Wednesday again rejected a pair of competing plans that would have temporarily extended funding. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed at a press briefing that layoffs of government employees are in the works. She said the Office of Management and Budget has been tasked with determining “what can we continue to keep running and what, unfortunately, is going to have to come to an end.” Leavitt said the layoffs would take place “very soon.”
Two people were killed in a car ramming and knife attack at a synagogue in Manchester, England, on Oct. 2, according to police.
