WASHINGTON—Two National Guard members were killed in a shooting near the White House on Nov. 26.
West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey confirmed the deaths in a post to social media.
“It is with great sorrow that we can confirm both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot earlier today in Washington, DC have passed away from their injuries,” he said.
“These brave West Virginians lost their lives in the service of their country. We are in ongoing contact with federal officials as the investigation continues.”
At around 2:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department reported that a shooting incident occurred at the intersection of 17th and I Street, Northwest. By 3 p.m., the police department said it had taken a suspect into custody….
