Alberta Unveils New ‘Strong and Free’ Licence Plate Design

An iconic image of Banff National Park’s Moraine Lake will be the new backdrop on Alberta licence plates, with the words “Strong and Free” as the new motto.
The province announced in mid-October that it would be allowing Albertans to pick the new design in an online tournament-style vote between Oct. 15 and Nov. 5. There were eight designs and three rounds of voting.
The government said more than 240,000 votes were cast, with the Moraine Lake design being selected to replace the current Wild Rose Country design.
The province said the “Strong and Free” motto will “serve as a nod to Canada’s national anthem and Alberta’s position as a strong and sovereign province within a united Canada.” The motto is also included in Latin in the Alberta coat of arms….
