Toyota has announced a recall of 1.02 million vehicles in the United States due to a defect that could cause the rear-view camera to malfunction, potentially increasing the risk of an accident.
In a Nov. 5 statement, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the recall involves 2022 through 2026 Toyota and Lexus models, including Camry, Highlander, RAV4, Prius, and Lexus RX, TX, LS, GX, NX, and LX—as well as Subaru Solterra vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor system.
The automaker reported that a software error could cause the camera image to freeze or go blank when the vehicle is in reverse. NHTSA noted that in this case, the vehicles would fail to comply with federal real visibility requirements and could be the cause of an accident.
