Treasury Secretary Optimistic After Supreme Court’s Tariffs Hearing

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Nov. 5 that he is “very, very optimistic” after a Supreme Court hearing on the legality of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs.
During an appearance on Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow” program, Bessent said he believed plaintiffs had “almost embarrassed themselves” while challenging Trump’s use of a 1977 law to defend his tariffs.
The Treasury secretary said he was confident that the Supreme Court would overturn a lower court ruling that the tariffs were illegal.
During oral argument lasting more than 2.5 hours, many of the justices asked questions indicating they thought the Trump administration was reading too much into an emergency powers law passed by Congress and that the president was potentially breaching the nation’s separation of powers….
