Trump Administration Asks Supreme Court to Stop Order on Paying for Food Stamps

The Trump administration on Nov. 10 said that the Supreme Court should halt an order requiring it to pay in full for the federal food stamp program, although the appeal could become moot if Congress ends the government shutdown.
The order in question states that the government must pay about $9 billion to fully fund the food stamp program for November.
Lawyers for the government said in a Nov. 10 filing that the administration still wants a stay of the order. They said they would enter a supplemental brief by 4 p.m.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on Nov. 7 stayed the order until 48 hours after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit issued a ruling on it. On Nov. 9, the appeals court said in its ruling that it would not block the order….
