Border Agency Mulls Ending Customs Check for Passengers With Canadian Stopovers

Canada’s border agency is considering dropping its requirement for international travellers to report to customs before setting off on their travels abroad.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has launched a 30-day consultation on the proposed regulatory change known as the Free Flow International-to-International (ITI) Transit initiative that would remove the obligation for passengers to check in while transiting through a Canadian airport en route to an international destination.
Feedback will be collected until Dec. 29, the border agency said in a Dec. 1 press release.
If the proposed change is approved, air carriers will be tasked with collecting and providing any pertinent additional information to the CBSA such as the final destinations of travellers and their scheduled return dates to Canada.
