Edmonton City Council Approves 6.9% Property Tax Increase

Edmonton city council has approved a 6.9 percent property tax hike starting in 2026, a move it says is needed to fund city services and construction projects.
City council previously approved a 5.7 percent increase for municipal property taxes in April, saying at that time that property taxes would generate $2.2 billion to fund city services and projects.
The city now says the 6.9 percent increase will address “budget challenges” and continue to fund the 70 services and more than 200 construction projects set out in the 2023-2026 budget.
