FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Dec. 26 that the agency would be permanently shutting down the J. Edgar Hoover Building, which has served as the agency’s headquarters for roughly 50 years.
“December 26: Shutting down the Hoover Building,” Patel said in a post to social media.
He added that the building would “be shut down permanently” and the agency would immediately begin transitioning to the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, which is just blocks away in Washington.
The Trump administration announced the Reagan building as the FBI’s new site earlier this year. That complex also houses U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Environmental Protection Agency, the General Services Administration, and a variety of other organizations.
